I am kind of freaking out about lack of urgency from people to the recent UN warning of global warming. The report tells us following: “The world’s leading climate scientists have warned there is only a dozen years for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.”
Well, that’s not very much time; it is the length of only 3 presidential terms. I think this is really serious for choosing the next president of the United States. It is terrifying to me how many people do not care about issues and proposed plans by the candidates. I see many baby boomers choose this way, although I sort of understand how we grew up with Hollywood award shows and beauty contests, picking someone with shallow points it may come naturally to us. This is a major problem in my opinion since we only have 12 years to curb the CO2 omission. I think this issue divides the baby boomer (I am this) and younger generations. Baby boomers will die out soon for sure and our lack of urgency comes from “We will be dead by then” attitude. In the other hand, I have huge hope for young people. They are well aware of the problem, and most baby boomers are responsible for creating most of it. Also, they seem to know that they have to fight climate catastrophes by themselves. Baby boomers are in denial and dislike young people making stand for their future. The criticism of Millennial by baby boomers are way off the mark. Most young people know that we can not choose anyone who takes fassul fuel industry money. That is no brainer. I think young generations do not get fooled so easily. They don’t watch cable TV (too expensive, I don’t have it either) and much more likely to get the alternative news source on the internet.
Please do not pick the president like picking a beauty pageant, hair or skin color, gender won’t matter when climate catastrophe is concerned.
